Best View on Alabama Highway 117
(in the humble opinion of this webmaster)

Driving out of Mentone to the West toward Valley Head and I-59, there are several pull-outs where you can stop and admire the view. Most, however, have the view blocked by foliage through most of the year. The best view I've found yet is the one shown above.

Below is the "evolution" of the pull-out. Late in 2011, someone cleaned out the pull-out on the West side of the road at the end of the rock wall, so if you're coming down the mountain, it's very accessible on the right side. In 2012, the Mentone Area Arts Council sponsored the installation of that large carved stone marker. There's one at each of the three highways into town.
