Rhododendron Festival -- Third Weekend in May

The Rhododendron Festival is sponsored by the Mentone Area Preservation Association (MAPA). It features artists and craftsmen displaying their handcrafted wares and live entertainment.  Potted rhododendron plants are always a sellout.  Usually the native flowing plants are at their peak in their array of beauty around the third weekend in May.  The lake on Little River above DeSoto Falls is a wonderful place from which to view the rhododendron and mountain laurel blooms.  There is a good variety of food for sale by several vendors. Details and plans for the festival can be found on the MAPA website shortly before the event is scheduled.
Annual Holiday Open House Weekend

On the weekend after Thanksgiving, November 28-30, 2014, the Mentone Business Association (MBA) hosted an open house throughout all of the businesses in downtown Mentone. We're hoping to make this an annual event. Information on the 2014 event are included at MyMentone.com/OpenHouse2014.html
JulyFest Art and Music Festival -- Third Weekend in July

Organized by the Little River Arts Council (LRAC), JulyFest features two days of arts and crafts, music by notable Alabama bands and artists, a pet parade and more. A community of artists and skilled craftsmen from throughout the region display their works of visual art, pottery, sculpture, wood, paper, basketry, fiber, photography, jewelry, and crafts of all descriptions. Entries are judged and cash prizes given. JulyFest was dropped in 2017 and replaced by the Summer Music Series. Check LRAC website for information.
Colorfest -- Third Weekend in October

It's hard to improve on Mother Nature's shows this time of year, but Mentone folks give it a shot!  Storytelling, sing-a-longs and dancing fill the crisp, cool air on Friday evening while children roast marshmallows around a huge bon-fire.  Saturday and Sunday are filled with live entertainment all day long, while local artists and craftsmen display their hand-crafted wares.  The Saturday afternoon parade and activities on Little River add to the festive atmosphere. Check MAPA website for information prior to annual event.
LRAC Home Tour and Silent Auction -- Fourth Weekend in October

Organized by the Little River Arts Council (LRAC), the Home Tour and Silent Auction features a tour of several unique homes in the Mentone area. Visitors are greeted by homeowners or guides who will elaborate on the history of each home. At the Town Hall, a Silent Auction is held throughout the weekend, featuring art, crafts, and other donations made by local supporters. Check LRAC website for information prior to annual event.

Community Cleanup and Cookout -- Saturday, April 7, 2018

This event is a cooperative effort involving the town of Mentone, the local Boy Scouts, and community volunteers. The intent is to get rid of all the litter on area roads. All meet at the Mentone Inn parking lot at 9 am to get assigned areas, roadways, etc. They then go to their assigned areas and pick up litter, which is later put in the large dumpster provided at the Town Hall. After the litter pickup, there is a community cookout at the Mentone Inn pavilion. Electronic recycling is also done at the Town Hall from 9 am to noon, accepting old computers, screens, printers, fax machines, and telephones. The event is announced by signs around town, plus a note from the mayor in the Mentone Matters column of The Groundhog in March.
